Microgaming PlayItForward gears up for Deloitte Ride Across Britain 2019

28.08.2019

ISLE OF MAN – Microgaming PlayItForward have entered a team comprising some of its most competitive and adventurous volunteers into the Deloitte Ride Across Britain (RAB), an epic nine-day cycling challenge covering 980 miles from Land’s End to John O’Groats.

The team of seasoned cyclists put their names forward to ride in the event, which runs between 7 and 15 September 2019 in aid of UK youth charity The Prince’s Trust. As a staff-driven social responsibility initiative, Microgaming PlayItForward was keen to support the riders, who include:

  • Andrew Corris
  • Hugo Langerman
  • Errol Larson
  • Chris Quayle
  • John Quinn
  • Kurt Schrauwen
  • Neill Whyte

Set to embark on one of the toughest endurance tests of their lives, the riders have pledged to raise at least £2,200 each as the team cycles its way towards a target of £15,400 for the charity. To date, 64% of the total has been raised through various activities and fun challenges, including sponge-throwing competitions and car washes.

The Prince’s Trust is the official charity partner of RAB, who help disadvantaged 11-30 year olds turn their lives around. To date, the charity has helped more than 825,000 young people since 1976 and supports over 100 more each day. Full details about the work of The Prince’s Trust can be found here.

For a long time, RAB is an event I’ve been keen to test myself on. It is a challenge more than a race, but I want to see how far I can push the body. My longest ever event was six days – Nice to Lake Geneva – over 700km – so there are some unknowns but that is the appeal. Also, turning 40 has fuelled this fire even more.

The RAB challenge is a fantastic opportunity for Microgaming PlayItForward to widen its scope and help support a major UK charity such as The Prince’s Trust, who give young people a second chance to not only succeed but make a difference. A special thanks to everyone for your support and donations, including our wonderful volunteers who are taking part in the nine-day cycling challenge.

This is for a great cause and in terms of being a challenge, it ranks right up there with the previous events that I have done. To be able to ride the length of Britain is a bucket list item for me, and for such a great cause is a bonus too!
